Team India retains its position of world no. 1 in ICC rankings

The people of the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, India witnessed a cricket test match that they will remember for a long long time. The second test match between Team India and South Africa was a real thriller. It was a match that was watched by the all the people who loved good cricket and also by them who loved match statistics. It was a match that was supposed to decide whether India would retain its position of world number 1 in ICC cricket ranking or South Africa would replace India from that position. The match really proved a match that was will be remembered as a match between two best teams of the world as far as the game of cricket is concerned.

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 296 in their first innings. Hasim Amla scored yet another ton and proved himself as the best batsman of the side at the moment. The debutant Petersen scored another ton. The Indian innings, in the reply, saw some splendid batting performances with four centuries in the innings. Virendra Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, V V S Lakshman and the skipper M S Dhoni scored for the Indian team. India declared their first innings on 643 for 6 with a command able lead of 347runs.

The South African team was in great pressure and it was really difficult for the team to save the match. Just at that juncture, the weather seemed to have stood in favor of the guests and the fourth day of the match got washed away completely. However, the team lost three wickets on the fourth day for 113 runs. However the last day of the match started in favor of India. As a matter of fact, the guest team had no chance of winning the test match, they could bat through the whole 5th day to save the match and win the series by a margin of 1-0.

The team India bowlers, especially Harbhajan Singh, cast his spin magic on the visitors and made it impossible for them to save the match. The whole team got bowled out for 290. This made Indian team win the match by an innings and 57 runs. With this emphatic win, the team maintained its supremacy in the test teams with the first position in the ICC test rankings.
