Jyoti Basu, you cannot remember this name in one certain way. This name is the witness of reconstruction of West Bengal, one of the most important states of the Republic Of India. He was a great diplomat, a great politician, an outstanding administrator and above all a very good human being. A person like Jyoti Basu must be called as a great son of the motherland. This great leader of the whole Indian political scenario passed away on Sunday, the 17th Day of January 2010. The whole India and the world will remember Jyoti Basu as a great political leader who lived for his ideologies and dominated the politics of the state and the country for more than six decades. Ebizzkolkata.com expresses its sincere floral tributes to this great-departed soul.

Mr. Jyoti Basu was born in the year 1914 in a middle-class family in Kolkata. He got his education in the premier schools and colleges like ST. Xavier’s School, Kolkata and Presidency College also in Kolkata. He got his degree in law from Middle Temple, London. During his stay in UK, he got greatly influenced by the ideas of Marxism. On his return to India, he joined the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Due to his wonderful leadership abilities and a versatile capacity of delivering speeches, he became an inseparable part of the party and emerged as a very powerful trade union leader. His contribution in reforming the Communist movement in West Bengal will be remembered by the people forever.

Jyoti Basu won his first general election for the Legislative Assembly of West Bengal during the days of colonialism. He performed the role of a very powerful leader of opposition from 1952 to 1957. You can easily judge his charismatic leadership as he won all the assembly election that held between 1952 and 1996. In the meantime, he became a very important member of the CPI (M) Politburo and the central core committee.

This undisputed leader of the CPI (M) became the Chief Minister of West Bengal on 21st June 1977 and glorified this post for the next five consecutive terms. His role as the iron man of the state politics brought him recognition from all corners of the world and he was respected by the world leaders due to his vision and philosophy towards politics. Due to his unparallel abilities as an administrator, he performed a major role in the national politics also.

After the trend of coalition governments started in the country, he played a major role in the formation of the first UPA government in the centre. He was offered the post of the Prime Minister. However, the disciplined Basu did not accept this post by following the decision that was taken by the Polit Bureau of CPI (M). Jyoti Basu showed tremendous amount of maturity in his entire life that was dedicated to the politics and service of humanity.

Ebizzkolkata.com greatly admires these qualities of Jyoti Basu and pays its homage to this tallest communist leader in spite of his short-statured figure. We, at Ebizzkolkata.com, wish that the God might rest the departed soul in peace!
