The city of Kolkata is popular all over the worlds for many reasons. Kolkata-The city of Joy has many things for which it holds a very prestigious status everywhere. It always remains in the center stage of popularity as far as India is concerned. One such reasons of popularity is the Kolkata Book Fair that is held every year in the month of January.
This year the 34th Kolkata Book Fair is organized in the Milan Mela Complex that is situated on the adjacent to the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass. Every year, this prestigious book fair is organized by the Publishers and Booksellers Guild, Kolkata and it supported by the State Government of West Bengal. This year the book fair was inaugurated by Mr. Jorge Volpi, a noted writer from Mexico and the honorable Chief Minister of the State, Mr. Buddhadeb Bhattacharya shared the position of Special Guest of Honor. This year the book fair is scheduled form 27the January and it will come to an end on the 7th day of February.
It is very talked-about event of the city and it gets an overwhelming response and support from the city dwellers. People of all age groups attend the book fair every year and the participating booksellers and publishers find it a very good time for their business. Many national and international publishers attend this book fair every year and this year it is not an exception. Big publishers like Oxford, Orient Blackswan etc are participating in this book fair. The visitors find it difficult to visit all the book stalls in one day as the number of stalls remains more than one hundred every year.
This year, the Kolkata Book Fair is dedicated to promote the Mexican literature with all its dimensions. Apart from leading publishers for different parts of the world, the Mexican publishers are getting special attention here this year. However, many noted publishers form Bangladesh, Britain, France, Germany, The African Union, Japan, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Romania, Vietnam, Cuba and 14 Latin American countries are also expected to participate in this year’s book fair. During the whole book fair schedule, many noted writers and poets are expected to visit the fair complex and to participate in the many talk shows, discussion forums, and other such healthy platforms.
The preparation for the whole book fair continues for many months before it is organized every year. The whole Milan Mela complex is divided into many parts and different things are organized in these separate parts. There are separate galleries for the literature for the children, IT Pavilion, Foreign enclosure as well as separate enclosures for the publishers from other states. Apart from common people, many well-known personalities also come and participate in the different programs that go side-by-side of the book fair. These personalities include famous writer from India, Film stars, and noted Journalists from India and abroad.
